Signing Agreements
Guide to the electronic signature process in VerdictFlow.
VerdictFlow includes built-in electronic signatures for fee sharing agreements. This guide covers the signing experience for both parties.
Receiving an Agreement to Sign
Notification
When an agreement is sent to you:
- Email notification with subject "Agreement Ready for Signature"
- In-app notification if you use VerdictFlow
- Link to access the document
Accessing the Agreement
Option 1: From Email
- Click Review & Sign in the email
- You're taken directly to the signing page
Option 2: From VerdictFlow
- Log in to VerdictFlow
- Go to Agreements → Pending
- Click on the agreement
Reviewing the Agreement
Before Signing
Take time to review:
- Fee percentage and terms
- Client/matter information
- Firm details (yours and theirs)
- Payment terms
- Any special conditions
Requesting Changes
If something needs to be corrected:
- Click Request Changes
- Describe what needs to be modified
- The sending party is notified
- They can update and resend
The Signing Process
Step 1: Confirm Your Identity
Before signing, confirm:
- Your name (as it will appear)
- Your title/position
- Your firm name
Step 2: Review Final Time
Scroll through the entire document. Ensure you've read and understood all terms.
Step 3: Add Your Signature
Click the signature block. You have options:
Type Signature
- Type your name
- Choose a font style
- Preview and confirm
Draw Signature
- Use mouse or touch to draw
- Redo if needed
- Confirm when satisfied
Upload Signature
- Upload an image of your signature
- Position and resize
- Confirm
Step 4: Complete
- Click Complete Signature
- Confirm you agree to sign
- Signature is applied
After Signing
Confirmation
You receive:
- On-screen confirmation
- Email confirmation with details
- Copy of signed document (after both parties sign)
What Happens Next
If you're the first signer:
- Status changes to "Partially Signed"
- Other party notified to sign
- You'll be notified when they sign
If you're the second signer:
- Agreement is fully executed
- Both parties receive signed PDF
- Document stored permanently
Declining to Sign
If you cannot sign the agreement:
- Click Decline to Sign
- Provide a reason (required)
- Confirm decline
The other party is notified and can:
- Address your concerns
- Send a revised agreement
- Cancel the referral
Mobile Signing
Sign from your phone or tablet:
- Open the email on your device
- Tap Review & Sign
- Review scrolls vertically
- Use finger to draw signature
- Complete signing
The mobile experience is optimized for touch screens.
Legal Validity
E-Signature Compliance
VerdictFlow's e-signatures comply with:
- ESIGN Act (federal)
- UETA (state-level)
- Industry standards for electronic signatures
Audit Trail
Each signature includes:
- Timestamp (date and time)
- IP address
- Email address of signer
- Method used (typed, drawn, uploaded)
Admissibility
E-signed agreements are legally binding and admissible in court, the same as wet-ink signatures.
Security
Document Security
- Documents encrypted in transit and at rest
- Accessible only to authorized parties
- Secure storage with audit logs
Signer Verification
- Email verification required
- Unique signing link per person
- Links expire after use
Common Questions
Can I sign on behalf of someone else?
No. The person whose name is listed must sign. If the signer needs to change, request the agreement be resent to the correct person.
What if I signed by mistake?
Contact the other party immediately. They may be able to cancel and regenerate the agreement before they sign.
Can I get a copy before signing?
Yes. Click Download PDF to save a copy of the unsigned agreement for your records or review.
Is my signature stored?
Your signature is applied to this specific document only. VerdictFlow doesn't store signatures for use on other documents without your consent.
Troubleshooting
Can't Access Signing Link
- Check if link expired (30 days)
- Request a new signing link
- Verify you're using the correct email
Signature Not Saving
- Check internet connection
- Try a different browser
- Clear cache and try again
- Contact support if persists
Wrong Information Displayed
- Do not sign
- Click Request Changes
- Explain what's incorrect
- Wait for corrected agreement
